So you want to be a teacher?

Information on becoming a teacher in Oregon is here, for those interested in that path.

  1. As a future teacher (and student in your class) I appreciate this post! This is my first time back in school in 15 years, and I’m finding Human Dev challenging (hence this extra-credit comment :) and totally interesting. Being back in school is definitely helping me relate to the students I’ll be in charge of teaching soon.

For all of you thinking about going the teaching route, I recommend volunteering for the SMART program. Through the program, you spend 1/2 hour sessions with children who are having trouble reading, or kids that simply lack the one-on-one time with an adult (which is so crucial to self-esteem and quality learning.) You can volunteer once, or on a regular basis - it’s up to you. It’s given me a better idea of what age range I’m interested in working with.

  3. Aw, this is a sweet cartoon. I hope to work with special education classrooms or deaf children in the future. PSU students who are interested in teaching/special ed should make an appointment with Karen Devoll in the CLAS Advising center.

Also, I like how happy the teacher seems with the Dr.'s findings. It looks like she's grateful for the reminder.
